For those who either claim that there is no difference between Capitalism and Socialism, or fail to comprehend the contrast between the two systems, two illustrations serve as examples of the real world outcomes of Socialism and its impact on people.

The first one is a well-known image of a satellite photograph of the Korean peninsula at night. South Korea, which dominates the southern half of the peninsula, is brightly lit, indicating large cities, active population centers and businesses, especially along the coast. The capital, Seoul, looks like an enormous, sprawling, exploding star.

North Korea, that bastion of Stalinist Socialism where Kim Jong-un holds sway over a captive, starving population, occupies the northern half of the peninsula, extending onto the mainland. The north is empty and dark, a black hole on the landscape, There are no brightly lit cities, no massive population centers, no businesses busy creating wealth and prosperity. The capital of North Korea, Pyongyang looks like a solitary speck of dust floating in an inky vacuum.

The second image, a before and after (or rather, a now vs. then) demonstration of dramatic changes over 60 years of history is a side by side comparison of Hong Kong and Havana in 1950 and 2010. The evidence is startling.

Hong Kong, which prospered under British rule until the territory was turned over to the Chinese government in 1997, was roughly equal to Havana in 1950 in economic terms. Both had growing populations and benefited from the prosperity created by capitalism. The key difference is that while Hong Kong continued to grow and prosper under free market capitalism and democratic governance until it was turned over to China, Havana, Cuba fell to Fidel Castro and his bloodthirsty Communist revolution. The progress made by Hong Kong over the 60 year period is contrasted by the rigor mortis exemplified by Havana. Where Hong Kong is modern, burgeoning, bright and progressive, Cuba is stuck in the 1950’s, a third-world country 90 miles off the coast of the most prosperous, powerful and advanced country on the face of the earth.

The message is obvious. Leftism, Progressivism, Socialism, Communism, Fascism, are all re-labeled, failed iterations of the same failed ideology. Like “New & Improved”, but without the new or improved. History has proven irrefutably that leftism is a tragic failure every single time and place it has been tried. Democrats and President Obama willfully ignore this tragic history at the expense of the American people, and have yet to pay a price. The time for a reckoning must come soon. Either the course on which they have set the American people will change, or the decline will only accelerate and the descent into the abyss will be complete.
