For puropses of this argument, we will limit the examination of President Obama’s deceitfulness to Obamacare.
Very little that Obama promised with regard to the Affordable Care Act has been proven true. In fact, to the contrary, Obama’s assurances that Obamacare would lower premiums and deductibles have resulted in the exact opposite outcome. Obamacare cannot and will not reduce the deficit nor improve the competitiveness of American businesses, and in fact makes it harder to keep valuable employees. Obamacare fundamentally changes existing health plans and in many cases causes their cancellation – plans which were very much “liked” by those who had them. The epic collapse of the Healthcare.gov website immediately brings to mind comparisons to the Titanic and the Hindenburg. Enrolling in Obamacare is decidedly not nearly as effortless as making online purchases on Amazon or Travelocity.
Worse still is the fact that Obama and the Democrats have yet to fully be honest with the American people by admitting that their plan to implement Obamacare does little to actually improve healthcare, but does much to give the Federal Government control over 1/6 of the largest economy in the world, removing it from the process of free enterprise and a self-regulating market that has seen vast improvements and price reductions in areas that allowed competition to flourish, such as plastic surgery, and laser eye surgery.
Obama said at least 36 times that “if you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it”, willfully and knowingly lying each time. He and the Democrats had no choice but to lie, because they knew that if they told the truth – that millions of people would lose their preferred health coverage, that premiums would skyrocket, that thousands of people would see their jobs lost, or at best have their pay drastically cut as employers found ways to offset the crippling cost of implementing Obamacare, that a failed website cost upwards of $500 million, that it would be unable to secure their private data, that the quality of health coverage would be reduced – if they told the truth, there was no way their legislation would ever pass.
It was legislation based so fundamentally upon deception and obfuscation, that even though it was passed as an individual mandate and the White House and Democrats insisted time and time again that it was absolutely not a tax hike, when the issue ultimately came before the Supreme Court, the Administration reversed course and insisted that it was indeed absolutely a tax increase, one which they were well within their legal right to enact and enforce.
During a speech he recently delivered to the smarmy nonprofit that developed like a festering sore from his 2012 campaign, Organizing for Action, Obama “modified” the mantra-like campaign promise he made 36 times – “If you have, or had, one of these plans, before the Affordable Care Act came into law, and you really liked that plan, what we said was you could keep it, if it hasn’t changed since the law’s passed,” he explained, deftly rewriting history like Winston Smith from George Orwell’s 1984:
When news broke last week that the administration knew in 2010 that millions of Americans would lose their coverage, Democrats and the Obama regime scrambled to shift the blame and the narrative. Rather than attempt to explain their deceitful tactics, the administration has instead chosen to blame insurance companies and their “bad apples plans” for the loss of health coverage for millions of people, in effect telling consumers that they were too stupid to decide what coverage was best for them and their families, and that the plans offered by insurance companies were deeply flawed and that customers were being ripped off.
Americans have begun starting to wake up in earnest to the culture of lies and deception at the center of the Obama White House. There is no level to which this failed administration will stoop in order to enact its flawed agenda. They will tell any lie, they will hide any truth. They will create distraction and stonewall any investigation. They will take advantage of every real or manufactured crisis. They will divide and conquer in any way they can. It’s the only thing they know how to do.
The great Victor Davis Hanson has an excellent article in which he dissects the pattern of deception and deliberate misleading of the public. One of the best points he makes is this one:
The president’s attempt to airbrush history is similar to the commandments on the barn wall in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. One day the commandment “All animals are equal” mysteriously appears rewritten with a new qualifier beside it, as if it had been there all along: “All animals are equal — but some animals are more equal than others.”
