Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer predicted that the comments White House press secretary Jay Carney made in response to the recently-released CBO report on Obamacare will be “emblazoned on the tombstone of liberalism.” Carney that he is referring to:

“Opportunity created by affordable, quality health insurance allows families in America to make a decision about how they will work, or if they will work.”

“He says opportunity. This is what he’s heralding in this achievement, that the government is giving opportunity for people to decide if they want to work. This is the liberals’ ideal of the opportunity society. Of course, in a free society, you can decide if you want to work, but what Obamacare does, and so the essence of liberalism, is you can choose not to work, and the people who do work end up subsidizing you.”

The Obama administration’s approach to the American economy, especially with regard to job creation and expanding opportunity, has failed spectacularly. There is no silver lining to this dark cloud. “Shovel-ready jobs” turned out to not be so “shovel-ready”. The most recent report by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, released in 2012, said the stimulus package essentially got a maximum 1.5 million more Americans working and added a maximum 1.9 million full-time-equivalent jobs. That means the $800 billion stimulus created 3.4 million jobs at a cost of $235,000 per job.

Such epic failures pale in comparison to the latest perspective from the White House, which is essentially; “You don’t have to work. We’ll make someone else pay the bill.”
