Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) announced on May 27, 2015 that he was running for President. He posted a tweet, sent out at 4:19 pm CST to announce his candidacy:

His speech was delivered before a crowd at an event in Cabot, Pa., near his boyhood home in which he outlined his motivation for a run:

“As middle America is hollowing out, we can’t sit idly by as big government politicians make it harder for our workers and then turn around and blame them for losing jobs overseas. American families don’t need another president tied to big government or big money.”

In announcing his intention to seek the presidency, Santorum joins an already diverse GOP presidential field, including Republican Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rand Paul (R-KY), former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR), former pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina as declared Republican candidates.
