Former Governor George Pataki (R-NY) announced on May 28, 2015 that he was running for President. He posted a tweet, sent out at 9:55 am CST, to announce his candidacy.
The announcement itself was delivered in a video posted to his website in which he outlined his motivation for a run:
“My vision was not a partisan vision. It was a vision about people, about what we could accomplish together… If we are to flourish as a people, we have to fall in love with America again.”
In announcing his intention to seek the presidency, Pataki becomes the eighth candidate to join an already diverse GOP presidential field, including Republican Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rand Paul (R-KY), former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR), former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), former pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina as declared Republican candidates.
