Real estate mogul and TV reality star Donald Trump (R-FL) announced on June 16, 2015 that he was running for President.
Trump made his announcement at the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York, and took the stage in front of supporters. Trump gave a speech in which he outlined his motivation for a run:
“So, ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for president of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again.”

In announcing his intention to seek the presidency, Trump becomes the 12th candidate to join an already diverse GOP presidential field, including former Governors Rick Perry (R-TX), Jeb Bush (R-FL), Mike Huckabee (R-AR) and George Pataki (R-NY), current Republican Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Rand Paul (R-KY), former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), and former pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson as declared Republican candidates.
