Yogi Berra, widely regarded as one of the best catchers in baseball history who also served as a manager and coach for various teams passed away September 22 at the age of 90. He played almost his entire 19-year baseball career (1946–65) for the New York Yankees. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. As a player, coach, or manager, Berra appeared in 21 World Series and won 13 of them.

I met him along the first base line once, at the Houston Astrodome, when he was a coach with the Astros. The meeting was a brief hello, a moment that passed so quickly, my young mind failed to register the significance. Only after he’d passed did I hear some of my fellow baseball fans say, “That’s Yogi.”
