Amber Ambrose, Monica Richart and I joined Craig Cohen to discuss several very interesting topics this week on Houston Public Media‘s show Houston Matters, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: First, voter turnout for the 2015 Houston municipal elections was approximately 12% of eligible voters. What accounts for this? Next, supporters of HERO, the resoundingly defeated, horrible, no good, very bad ordinance Mayor Annise Parker forced upon Houston, have spitefully demanded that the NCAA and NFL pull major sporting events from Houston as reprisal for their defeat at the polls – what accounts for this hate? Next, area gymnast Simone Biles has become the first woman to win 10 career world championship gold medals, and is making Houston proud. Finally we discuss the return of Krispy Kreme donuts to Houston and the potential ramifications of real donut competition in Houston.
