With the upcoming presidential election almost certain to be one of the most consequential in American history, the sudden loss of Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia raises the stakes in an immense way.
The future direction of the court and of the nation are now more at stake then ever before. Now, more than ever, the American people see before them the opportunity to fundamentally shift society in a real and lasting way. Scalia’s originalist interpretation of the Constitution set a high standard; not only for the court, but for students of the law across America. His towering intellect raised the bar in a meaningful and significant way.
The Supreme Court’s huge role in reshaping society makes it vitally important that the Justice who fills the void left by Scalia’s death not only be grounded in and uphold the same principles and values Scalia evinced, but literally be willing to be a warrior for justice; someone who will have unwavering dedication to the Constitution, and reinforce the originalist, constitutionalist views of Justices Thomas and Alito.
That would be the best way to honor the life and legacy of the greatest Supreme Court Justice of the last 50 years.
