Conservatives and the Republican party must do everything possible to deny President Obama the opportunity to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by the tragic and untimely death of Antonin Scalia. They must stand firm on #NoHearingsNoVotes

Until the inauguration of a new Republican president, Conservatives must hold the line, regardless of the pressure and attacks from the Left. They will say that President Obama won in 2012, and has a mandate. They will say the president has the authority to submit a nominee. They will say that Republicans are being obstructionists. They will say that Obama has the right to choose who will replace Scalia.

Conservatives need only to sit back and wait. We remember Bork. We remember the savaging of Clarence Thomas. We remember Estrada. We remember the threatened filibuster of Alito. We remember Senate Democrats deliberately and calculatingly obstructing any judicial nominations during the last 18 months of the George W.Bush administration. The Left side of the argument surrendered the moral high ground, all objectivity and legitimacy on the argument long ago.

Nothing in the Constitution *requires* that the Senate approve Obama’s nomination, much less hold hearings. Elections have consequences. Obama’s proven irresponsibility in selecting extremist, agenda-driven justices must not be rewarded. Conservatives must not willingly surrender the balance of the court for a generation or more.

  1. I hear what you are saying. But, the sad fact is that this Republican Party does not have a good record in standing up to Obama. The House could have defunded Obama Care, but did not. So, it remains to be seen if the Republicans will stand firm. As well, I wrote a piece last week on my blog on this and noted that Republican Presidents do not do so well at appointing or nominating strict Constructionists to the High Court.
