Judge Linda Garcia was unanimously appointed by Harris County Commissioners Court as judge of the newly-created Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 16 in December 2015 and took the bench on January 4, 2016. She is running to keep her seat on the bench.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Garcia was a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for over 15 years, where she tried over 70 jury trials to a verdict, served as a chief prosecutor in the Misdemeanor and Justice Court Divisions, and served in the Post Conviction Writs, Child Abuse, and Grand Jury Divisions. Judge Garcia also held statewide office for 9 years as a gubernatorial appointee to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, where she was responsible for release and revocation decisions for inmates, made recommendations to the Governor on death penalty cases, and served as the Board’s liaison to TDCJ-Victim Services Division and the Chairman of the Rules Committee.
Judge Linda Garcia and her husband, Tom, have been married for 18 years and have one son, Trent; the family are active members of and attend Annunciation Catholic Church.
